Open Up Your Kitchen with Sheer Curtains

Sheer curtains can open up your kitchen to light and bring a little of the outdoors in.

Of course, they can also let in prying eyes and nosey neighbors. If you choose to install sheers, you aren’t required to leave your windows open for peeping at all times. Sheer curtains and draperies allow for a little privacy in the daytime but at night most will turn see-through with indoor lighting.

Sheer draperies are usually inexpensive to purchase and come in a variety of measurements to fit most standard window sizes.

Whether your kitchen windows face a busy street or a forty acre forest, you may have a concern about privacy if you choose sheers as window coverings. There are a few ways to get more privacy out of your sheers:

Install sheers that are three to four times the width of your window. The pleats and folds will provide privacy.
Install shades underneath sheers and pull down shade at night
Mini blinds, wood blinds, shutters and cellular shades can all be installed in recesses in your window frame, you can choose to pull them only at night
Install a light colored curtain under sheers. You will still get the softening effect of sheers but will keep out prying eyes. You can use hooks to pull back colored curtains to let sun in.
Add a design to plain sheers using sewing notions, fabric appliqués, paints, fringe, ribbon or anything that strikes your fancy

Sheers are great if you have indoor plants because they will still get plenty of sunlight without the possibility of burning leaves. They let in plenty of the suns hot rays while still protecting wood floors and other light-sensitive surfaces. They come in a variety of colors and can be dyed using silk, cotton or linen safe coloring agents.
