Dress Up Your Kitchen With Café Curtains

If you’ve decided to change the look in your kitchen, a very inexpensive way to do this is to replace your kitchen curtains with café curtains.

They are relatively simple to make or you can purchase the café curtain in almost any home décor store.

The café curtain is a curtain designed to hang from the center of the window, which leaves the top part of the window bare. If you prefer, you can even hang them a third or fourth of the way from the top part of the window. This will give your window a whole new look. The café curtain is most often used in kitchens, although some like this look in the bathroom, as well.

If you are going to shop for café curtains, you’ll want to decide what you are looking for before you go in the store. Know what color you need to match and it will make it much easier to find a pattern that you like. You should be able to find café curtains in a pattern that will match the décor of your kitchen.

Making your own café curtains is quite simple to do and it doesn’t take much time. You’ll find many patterns and instructions in your local sewing or craft store, as well as be able to find them online. The most confusing thing for most people when making café curtains, however, is the actual measuring of the window. This is actually quite simple, as well.

For standard café curtains, the first thing you’ll want to do is take a measurement from where you want your curtain to hang from to the bottom of the window. Then measure the width of the window and if you would like, you can even include the casing in both of these measurements. The width of the café curtain should be approximately two or three times the measurement you took. You’ll also want to add ten-inches onto your height measurement, six-inches for the bottom hem and four for the heading. Add another four-inches to the width for the hem and use these figures to calculate how much fabric you’ll need.

When choosing the fabric for your curtains, make sure the material is light and airy. Lace works really well for this style of curtains, as well. The café curtains that you make or purchase for your kitchen can change the whole look of your kitchen. Add one to your door and you’ll create a certain ambience that everyone will love.
